The Story

Rhys (like Reese) grew up in Australia before moving to the East Bay Area fourteen years ago and eventually settling in Southern California. Music found him at five, starting with piano, then guitar at fourteen. The real shift came on an ordinary school bus ride in sixth grade when a friend’s phone introduced him to Skrillex’s Bangarang EP. He had never heard bass operate that way before. Nothing sounded the same after.

By sixteen he was producing and DJing. During the pandemic a controller arrived and a year later so did the bookings, starting small with friends’ parties and building quickly after his move to San Diego. His first time at a Dom Dolla headline show made the potential undeniable: a dancefloor in the right hands creates memories like no other. Balancing studies at SDSU meant the late night circuit stayed out of reach, but an unexpected door opened at a friend’s wedding. Taking inspiration from his first times at Ultra Music Festival, EDC, and Lightning in a Bottle and bringing it to a reception felt like discovering entirely new territory.

The Milestone philosophy comes directly from those experiences. Genuine personalization and attention to detail form the foundation of every set. After that, the sound system is everything. Bass played at the level it was designed for transforms a room, and without it you might as well hand over a JBL boombox and let Spotify handle the mix. Today his rotation spans Zeds Dead, Subtronics, Fisher, Chris Lake, MPH, and Salute, balanced with a deep love of R&B and the classics. On any given weekend you can find him behind a sound system somewhere in Southern California, or behind the decks at your celebration.

If house, techno or dubstep is your world, that is exactly what you get. A real set, run the way it should be. If Y2K, family favorites and the classics that get every generation moving are more your thing, those are genuinely some of my favourite nights to play. And if you want the best of both worlds, we have an unforgettable night ahead of us.
